Artist's Description

A domed juncture where arched walkways converge at the magnificent First Baptist Church in Amarillo, Texas; fine grain added.

It was a very cold, windy night when this beautiful complex all lit up came into view. The wind was so strong that all the lights moved as it passed through all the arches. Still not a deterent to catch some shots.

In 1890 the 36' x 60' original church was built and still stands today. As the congregation grew the small church was inadequate, so in 1926 the decision was made to build a larger one. On Aug 3, 1930 they dedicated the newly finished First Baptist Church that has been used over the decades.

Over the years the arched walkways, areas of reflection, etc. were constructed to make the First Baptist Church complex an architectural wonder. Even on that cold, windy night I spent over an hour just taking it all in.

Photography presented itself as more of an art form then just snapshots from life. Since that trip I have been honing my skills; focusing on landscapes, architecture, nature and my favorite ... Black and Whites. Call me old fashion, but I think photographs are more striking with the absence of...
