Description
Afton was established in 1886 as a farming community, where agriculture thrived in the black soil. When the Mother Road, Route 66, was brought to Afton it had prosperity come in leaps and bounds with auto courts and gas stations popping up.
Back in the day, one would find all kinds of Auto Courts along Route 66. Many are long gone, yet others like the Avon Court Motel are abandoned and left to deteriorate. The Avon Court Motel is on the west side of Afton, Oklahoma which is all but a ghost town today since Interstate 44 drew traffic away in 1957, from this once prospering town.
